COMMUNITY WELLNESS

Healthy communities don’t happen by accident. That is why the Derby Recreation Commission has committed to assisting the residents of Derby and USD 260 improve their health and well-being. Well-being is a positive outcome that is meaningful for people and for many sectors of society, because it tells us that people perceive that their lives are going well. Fundamentals of well-being include the following.

Purpose: Liking what you do each day and being motivated to achieve your goals

Social: Having supportive relationships and love in your life

Financial: Managing your economic life to reduce stress and increase security

Community: Liking where you live, feeling safe and having pride in your community

Physical: Having good health and enough energy to get things done daily

The Derby Recreation Commission, through a grant from the United Methodist Health Ministries Fund, took steps in 2010 to create The Derby Health Collaborative. Community partners of the Derby Health Collaborative aim to work together to influence policy, systems and environmental conditions to improve the health and well-being of all residents residing in the USD 260 area. The Derby Health Collaborative is a free membership organization that acts as a unifying force in it's efforts to improve the health of the Derby community through initiatives that lead to individual well-being and a community health culture.
