  3. Prevent T2

    February 25, 2019, 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

    The Prevent T2 program provides a supportive environment where participants work together in a small group to learn about healthier eating and increasing their physical activity in order to reduce their risk for developing diabetes. The program, which is led by a trained Lifestyle Coach in a classroom setting, is delivered over a 12-month period, beginning with 16 weekly sessions followed by monthly maintenance. Participants are charged an enrollment fee but upon completion of requirements get reimbursed plus receive a one year free DRC membership. In order to qualify for the Diabetes Prevention Program, participants must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI = 25) and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes or have been diagnosed with prediabetes by their physician. Join us in our new DIY Workshop Series this winter when the weather isn’t so great to be outside. Each class or open studio is $25 and is for ages 16 and older.   7. Youth Job Connections

    Many times young people lack skills when starting their first job.Youth Job Connections is a program to teach young people skills in communication, teamwork, enthusiasm, networking, problem-solving and critical thinking. Many youth struggle filling out applications, building their resume and interviewing. The Youth Job Connections program will teach young people responsibility, organization, time management and help to establish good work habits, experience, and financial stability. This 8-week program is available to Derby youth ages 15 to 18. Class meets 2 hours each week. Interested youth must fill out an application and be accepted into the program. Once accepted into the program, an enrollment fee of $30.00 is required. Upon completion of requirements, graduates of the program will be interviewed for various spring and summer jobs at the Derby Recreation Commission.
